Trivia Friday

Tonight is being touted as a Subway Seeies that finally has meaning behind it. There was a time before the novelty wore off that these games alone were important.

In any event, the Yankees got the host the first ever Subway Series at Yankee Stadium. Under the old rules, the teams would alternate who was home.  That meant the first game was played at Shea in 1998. Today’s quiz asks you to name the players who appeared for the Mets in that first home game. Good luck!

Trivia Friday

Fourteen years ago, the Twin Towers fell, and American lives were lost. The country mourned and came together. The Mets players would make a symbolic gesture to wear the caps of the First Responders to honor those heroes who risked their lives to save others.

Today’s quiz seeks the names of the First Responder organizations that risked their lives and died on 9/11. God Bless America.

Trivia Friday

Since he was first called up, all we heard about Jon Niese was that he was born on the same day the Mets last won the World Series. What we hear now is Niese’s next start is the biggest of his life. Sounds like there’s a real chance he may not be on the postseason roster.

It’s strange that the player born on the date the Mets last won the World Series may not be on the postseason roster. It made me think with this young team, how many players were alive when the Mets won the 1986 World a Series. I have you one answer. Good luck with the other 17!

Trivia Friday

in 2007, the Mets appeared to be on their way to their second straight division title.  However, this team had pitching flaws, which included a weak bullpen and the need to rest Pedro Martinez down the stretch. Sounds familiar?

Anyway, this week’s quiz seeks the names of all the pitchers who pitched for the Mets in 2007. Good luck!

Trivia Friday

Considering the issues with the Mets bullpen, I thought today’s quiz should focus on the top Mets’ relievers by appearances. Good luck!

Trivia Friday

With the Mets playing Pittsburg this weekend, I was reminded of how lucky Mets fans have been to have such terrific broadcasters.  It all started with the first group, who all shared TV and radio duties. Today’s quiz seeks the names of the three original Mets announcers.

So, as you know, it’s Quiz Friday here at Mets Daddy, so to all you readers out there, Happy Birthday.

Trivia Friday

With the Mets making moves to reshape the roster, this week I wanted to see if you could name all the players the Mets acquired via trade in 2015. Good luck!

Trivia Friday

The failed Carlos Gomez deal is something we’re going to talk aboit for a long time especially now that Gomez was traded to the Astros. This week’s tongue in cheek quiz looks for the players who changed teams in the Mets-Brewers trade. Good luck!

Trivia Friday

Currently, the Mets are averaging 3.42 runs per game (with 2.83 runs per game in July).  As noted everywhere, the offense is historically bad at scoring runs.  To that end, today’s trivia question focuses on which teams have scored the fewest runs per season in the 2000s.  Good luck!

Wright’s Moment

Given that today is Trivia Friday, here’s another question for you. Who was the last Mets player to knock in a run in the playoffs?  If the title didn’t give it away, the answer is David Wright

Seriously, how many Mets fans remember that Wright knocked in Carlos Beltran to give the Mets a 1-0 lead in the first inning of Game 7 of the 2006 NLCS?  I doubt many because most people focus on his .160/.276/.320 line in the NLCS. They choose not to focus on the RBI or his .333/.385/.500 line in the 2006 NLDS. Instead the narrative became Wright isn’t clutch

In 2000, I remember similar rumblings being uttered about the then face of the Mets franchise, Mike Piazza. Up until 2000, Piazza was not seen as a playoff performer. That perception did not change with his homerun against John Smoltz in Game 6 of the 1999 NLCS. Rather, it changed when he hit a double with third base coach John Stearns proclaiming over and over again, “The monster is out of the cage!

Piazza would hit extremely well in the 2000 playoffs. He hit .214/.389/.286 in the NLDS. He hit .412/.545/.941 (video game numbers) in the NLCS. He hit .273/.273/.636 in the World Series. Overall, he hit six doubles, four homeruns, and eight RBIs. Not too bad for a career .242/.301/.458 postseason hitter.

I wasn’t surprised by Piazza in 2000. He hit .324/.398/.570 with 32 homers and 111 RBIs. He is a career .3o8/.377/.545 hitter. I expected Piazza to hit in 2000. It was only a matter of time before he busted out in the playoffs. I’m expecting Wright to perform just as well.

Sure, his 2006 playoff numbers were not good. However, he is a career .298/.377/.492 hitter. Since returning from his back injury, Wright has hit .277/.381/.437 with seven doubles, four homeruns, and 13 RBIs. Like Piazza, it’s his team. Like Piazza, it’s his moment. Like Piazza, I’m expecting him to perform.

Wright is capable of doing it. He’s the face of the franchise. He’s the guy who stayed.  He’s the Captain of the team. He’s chasing a World Series ring. It’s his time. It’s his moment.

If he performs like we know he can, it’ll be his World Series ring.
