Trivia
Now that the regular season is over, and the Mets have been eliminated from the postseason, it is time to look back at the 2016 season as a whole. The Mets have had some surprising years from players and some disappointing years from players. In sum, the Mets had some terrific players and seasons from players that helped them back to a second straight postseason appearance. However, you are left wondering if some of the Mets players played just a little better or were healthy, they might have been in the race for and/or won the NL East. Do you think you can name the best players in the NL East this year? Good luck!
Max Scherzer, Wilson Ramos, Freddie Freeman, Daniel Murphy, Anthony Rendon, Asdrubal Cabrera, Christian Yelich, Odubel Herrera, Curtis Granderson, Mike Stanton, Noah Syndergaard, J.T. Realmuto, Bryce Harper
After Conor Gillaspie hit a three run homer off Jeurys Familia, and Yoenis Cespedes, Curtis Granderson, and T.J. Rivera went down 1-2-3 in the ninth, the Mets closed out another postseason. This one much shorter than the rest. You probably know who was the winning pitcher of the Wild Card Game, but do you know who the pitchers were that won all of the postseason clinching games the Mets have played? Good luck!
Nolan Ryan, Jerry Koosman, Tom Seaver, Ken Holtzman, Jesse Orosco, Roger McDowell, Orel Hershiser, John Franco, Russ Springer, Bobby Jones, Mike Hampton, Mike Stanton, Pedro Feliciano, Randy Flores, Jacob deGrom, Bartolo Colon, Luke Hochevar, Madison Bumgarner
Tonight, Bartolo Colon will take the mound for the Mets with an opportunity to send the Mets to the postseason for a second consecutive year. This will mark only the second time that has happened in the Mets 54 year history. Can you name the players that were in the lineup the last time the Mets clinched a second consecutive postseason appearance? Good luck!
As a bonus quiz for today, can you name the teams the Mets have beaten to clinch a postseason berth? Good luck!
Timo Perez, Derek Bell, Darryl Hamilton, Edgardo Alfonzo, Mike Piazza, Robin Ventura, Todd Zeile, Jay Payton, Mike Bordick, Rick Reed, Lenny Harris, Armando Benitez, Gary Gentry, Tom Seaver, Dwight Gooden, Ron Darling, Al Leiter, Steve Trachsel, Matt Harvey
With the Mets once again going with a Yoenis Cespedes–Alejandro De Aza–Curtis Granderson outfield, now seems like a good time to revisit Sandy Alderson’s deadline acquisitions. Can you name them? Good luck!
Danny Herrera, Francisco Rodriguez, Adrian Rosario, Zack Wheeler, Carlos Beltran, Kelly Shoppach, Pedro Beato, Eric Young, Collin McHugh, Kyle Johnson, Collin Cowgill, Dilson Herrera, John Buck, Marlon Byrd, Vic Black, Kelly Johnson, Juan Uribe, John Gant, Robert Whalen, Tyler Clippard, Casey Meisner, Yoenis Cespedes, Michael Fulmer, Luis Cessa, Eric O’Flaherty, Dawrin Frias, Addison Reed, Miller Diaz, Matt Koch, Akeel Morris, Jay Bruce, Jon Niese, Antonio Bastardo, Erik Manoah, Fernando Salas
Some organizations regularly produce power hitting outfielders. The Mets aren’t one of those organizations. In fact, the 30 home run season from an outfielder is quite a rare feat. Well, it did happen again this year. Can you name the player who did it and all the outfielders that have accomplished this task in Mets history? Good luck!
Frank Thomas, Dave Kingman, Darryl Strawberry, Bernard Gilkey, Mike Cameron, Cliff Floyd, Carlos Beltran, Yoenis Cespedes
With the Jacob deGrom and Steven Matz injuries, Seth Lugo and Robert Gsellman have pitched extremely well so far. With each passing day, it becomes more and more questionable deGrom and Matz can return meaning Lugo and Gsellman may have to make a postseason start.
If that is the case, they will join a list of young Mets pitchers who have been thrust into the postseason despite them only making a few career starts. Can you name the Mets who have had the fewest career starts before pitching in a postseason game? Good luck!
John Maine, Noah Syndergaard, Gary Gentry, David Cone, Matt Harvey, Jerry Koosman, Jon Matlack, Sid Fernandez
Thanks in part to the stupidity of Jenrry Mejia, the Mets changed closers in 2015. From 2015 to the present, the current Mets closer has recorded more saves over a two game stretch than any other closer in Mets history. Can you name him and the other closers he has surpassed? Good luck!
Through their history, the Mets have only gone to the postseason in consecutive seasons one time in their history. That means the Mets have failed to accomplish returning to the postseason six out of seven times in their history. With the way things are going right now, it appears the Mets will once again fail to go to back-to-back postseasons.
However, just because the Mets missed the postseason, it doesn’t mean there weren’t some outstanding performances by Mets players who tried to will their teams back to the postseason. Do you know who were the best Mets players the year after they went to the postseason? Good luck!
Mike Piazza, Tom Seaver, Jon Matlack, Edgardo Alfonzo, Darryl Strawberry, David Wright, Howard Johnson, Noah Syndergaard
With Sandy Alderson paying Terry Collins a visit in San Francisco, it makes you believe that the Terry Watch has begun. The Mets have fired nine managers in season, and if they were to fire Collins, that would make it a tenth. Can you name the nine managers fired in season? Good luck!
Wes Westrum, Salty Parker, Yogi Berra, Roy McMillan, Joe Frazier, Joe Torre, George Bamberger, Frank Howard, Davey Johnson, Bud Harrelson, Mike Cubbage, Jeff Torborg, Dallas Green, Bobby Valentine, Willie Randolph, Jerry Manuel
