Trivia
Quite possibly despite themselves, the Mets find themselves in a Wild Card race. Where they were once in a position to trade Zack Wheeler, they have to reassess not just after his landing on the Injured List, but also with the position they currently find themselves. Ultimately, it will be interesting to see which direction they will go.
What is also interesting is the group the Mets have acquired prior to the trade deadline in the years they made the postseason. Can you name those players? Good luck!
Donn Clendenon Ed Nunez Kenny Rogers Darryl Hamilton Chuck McElroy Billy Taylor Shawn Dunston Bubba Trammell Rick White Mike Bordick Roberto Hernandez Oliver Perez Kelly Johnson Juan Uribe Jay Bruce Jon Niese Tyler Clippard Yoenis Cespedes
On Monday, Pete Alonso joined Darryl Strawberry as the only Mets to win the Home Run Derby. When Strawberry won in 1986, he would not lead the league in homers. He would finish that season tied for fifth in homers 10 behind Mike Schmidt.
This year, Alonso is tied with Cody Bellinger for second in homers in the league. Both players are just one behind Christian Yelich. If Alonso could overcome Yelich, Bellinger, and sluggers just behind him, he would become the eighth player to win the Home Run Derby in the same year he led the league in homers. Can you name the seven who have done it? Good luck!
Andre Dawson Ryne Sandberg Juan Gonzalez Ken Griffey Jr. Sammy Sosa Ryan Howard Aaron Judge
For the fourth time since the Home Run Derby began, the Mets will have a participant. We know of one who will participate on Monday, and there are two other players. Can you name all three? Good luck
The 1969 Mets are returning to Queens to celebrate the 50th anniversary of the first World Series in franchise history. It was a miracle that team won, and it would take another miracle for the team to win in 1986. Between those two teams, there were a number of lovable players but only three Hall of Famers. Can you name those players? Good luck!
This offseason, Brodie Van Wagenen went out and added Keon Broxton, Robinson Cano, J.D. Davis, Edwin Diaz, Jeurys Familia, Jed Lowrie, Justin Wilson, and others in the hopes of building a World Series winner. So far, the end result has been an under .500 fourth place team very reminiscent of the 1992 Mets team dubbed The Worst Team Money Could Buy.
Do you remember the players who made up that 90 loss 1992 team? Good luck!
Jeff Torborg Eddie Murray Bobby Bonilla Dave Gallagher Bill Pecota Bret Saberhagen Rodney McCray Tom Filer Steve Springer Jeff McKnight Willie Randolph Mike Birkbeck Paul Gibson Daryl Boston
While Ron Hunt might’ve been the first Mets player to start an All Star Game, he was not the first Mets player to be elected an All Star by the fan vote. That would not happen until 1971, one year after the fan vote was reinstated. In total, the Mets have had 12 players elected as All Star starters with none of them coming since 2013.
Can you name the Mets who have been elected All Star starters? Good luck!
Bud Harrelson Willie Mays Dave Kingman Darryl Strawberry Keith Hernandez Gary Carter Howard Johnson Mike Piazza Carlos Beltran David Wright Paul Lo Duca Jose Reyes
With the actions of Tom Brady, it is best to leave this quiz nice and simple. Who is the real Tom Terrific?
After this series against the Dodgers, you could see the Mets and Dodgers have gone two completely different directions since the Mets 2015 NLDS victory. We have seen key players from that series like Daniel Murphy sign elsewhere or Chase Utley retire. Really, both rosters have undergone much overhaul.
Given the overhaul, can you name the players who have remained with both teams? Good luck!
Juan Lagares Michael Conforto Yoenis Cespedes Noah Syndergaard Jacob deGrom Steven Matz Jeurys Familia Kike Hernandez Corey Seager Joc Pederson Justin Turner Clayton Kershaw Kenley Jansen Yimi Garcia Zack Wheeler Hyun-Jin Ryu
With Addison Reed being released by the Twins, we are reminded of just how great he was with the Mets. If not for him in 2015, the Mets may not make it to the World Series. In 2016, he was even better and was one of the key difference makers for a Mets team who claimed a Wild Card spot. Overall, he was one of the best set-up men to ever wear a Mets uniform.
But was he the best? Does he even make the top five? Can you name who does? Good luck!
So far this year, the Mets have had the fifth starter spot come up in the rotation 10 times, and they have had a starter go at least five innings twice. Their fill-ins, Wilmer Font and Chris Flexen, have certainly contributed to it. It’s about as bad as you get, but with them falling far short of 100 innings as a Met, they don’t yet qualify as one of the worst pitchers in Mets history. Can you name the five who do? Good luck!
Jason Vargas Craig Anderson Pete Smith Livan Hernandez Rafael Montero Paul Wilson
