Trivia Friday: Best Pitchers of 2010 Decade

With the 2010 decade in the books, at least in a baseball sense, it is time to start looking at who were some of the best players over the course of the decade. For starters, can you name who were the best pitchers over the course of the decade (minimum 700.0 IP)? Good luck!

Trivia Friday: Players Who Have Won MVP & Rookie Of The Year

As the Mets plan to build a World Series winner in 2020, they are going to need someone to take the next step. One of the ways that could happen is either Pete Alonso or Jacob deGrom becoming the 27th player in Major League history to win both a Rookie of the Year Award and an MVP.

Can you name those other 26 players? Good luck!

Jackie Robinson Don Newcombe Willie Mays Frank Robinson Orlando Cepeda Willie McCovey Pete Rose Dick Allen Rod Carew Johnny Bench Thurman Munson Fred Lynn Andre Dawson Cal Ripken Jr. Jose Canseco Jeff Bagwell Albert Pujols Ichiro Suzuki Ryan Howard Justin Verlander Ryan Braun Dustin Pedroia Buster Posey Bryce Harper Mike Trout Kris Bryant Cody Bellinger

Trivia Friday: Rule 5 Picks Inducted Into The Hall Of Fame

The Mets added Andres Gimenez, Jordan Humphreys, Ali Sanchez, and Thomas Szapucki to the 40 man roster protecting them from the Rule 5 Draft. This leaves the Mets hoping they won’t lose players like Patrick Mazeika and Shervyen Newton.

To that end, the Mets also hope they can find a player in the Rule 5 Draft who will have a positive impact in 2020. While Johan Santana and Jose Bautista are the ideal, they’ll certainly settle for a player like Sean Gilmartin, who was a valuable reliever in that 2015 bullpen.

While you are looking for All-Stars and valuable contributors, the dream is you draft a future Hall of Famer. In Major League history, that feat has only been accomplished three times. Can you name the three players? Good luck!

Trivia Friday: Pitchers Who Won Rookie of the Year and Two Cy Young Awards

In the 2019 season, Major Leauge history was set with two pitchers doing something which had only been accomplished once in Major League history – adding a second Cy Young to a Rookie of the Year award. Can you now name the three people who have accomplished this feat? Good luck!

Trivia Friday: Hall of Fame Players Who Won World Series As Manager

With the Mets hiring Carlos Beltran, they are not only bringing home one of the greatest players in team history. They are also having a future Hall of Famer try to guide the Mets to their third World Series in franchise history. Looking over the 150 years of baseball, that is a feat accomplished by only nine other Hall of Famers.

Perhaps most daunting, it was last accomplished in 1978, and it has only been twice accomplished by Hall of Famers who were not player/managers. Can you name those two managers and all nine Hall of Famers? Good luck!

Trivia Friday: Cy Young Winners Who Started A Game 7

In Mets history, they have played  in two World Series which have gone seven games. The first time was in 1973 when Jon Matlack took the mound. Thirteen years later it was Ron Darling. Despite both of them being highly touted first round picks who had good careers, neither would win a Cy Young Award.

In World Series history, there has been 17 different times a pitcher who would win a Cy Young would start Game 7 of the World Series. Can you name the pitchers? Good luck!

Trivia Friday: World Series MVPs From NL East

The Washington Nationals are returning home after winning the first two games of the World Series in Houston. This puts them halfway towards winning the first World Series in franchise history. If they do pull it off, the MVP discussion will be interesting with Anthony Rendon, Howie Kendrick, Juan Soto, and Trea Turner each having a good case thus far.

If the Nationals do win, the MVP from this series would be the ninth World Series MVP from the NL East. Can you name the eight who have done it? Good luck!

Trivia Friday: Former Mets Who Managed Team

The Mets have interviewed Carlos Beltran and Tim Bogar for their manager job. If either one gets the job, they will become the 10th former Mets player to manage the team. Can you name the nine who have done it? Good luck!

Trivia Friday: Teams Who Have Never Won A Division Series

The St. Louis Cardinals jumping all over Mike Foltynewicz and Max Fried for 10 runs in the first, the Atlanta Braves were on their way to losing their eighth straight division series. While that is quite a long drought, the Braves did win five of their first six Division Series.

While that was a long drought, the most notable in the National League East was the Washington Nationals who had never won an NLDS since the team moved to Washington, D.C. That all changed when Howie Kendrick hit a grand slam off of Joe Kelly.

While that was the first NLDS victory for the Nationals, it was not the first one in team history. Steve Rogers would pitch a complete game shut out and go 2-for-3 at the plate with two RBI in Game 5 of the 1981 NLDS to knock off the Philadelphia Phillies in five games.

Of course, that NLDS was the result of a strike interrupted season. We would not see the return of the NLDS until 1995. Since that time, thanks to the Dodgers, there has only been one Major League franchise who has not won a Division Series. Can you name that team? Good luck!
