Trivia Friday – Players Not On the Opening Day Roster

Last year, the New York Mets began the season with Eric Campbell on the Opening Day roster as the final bench piece.  As the season progressed, and players like David Wright and Lucas Duda went down with injury, the Mets had to go deeper and deeper into their farm system and bring players in to play.  There were similar issues with Matt Harvey, Jacob deGrom, and Steven Matz needing season ending surgeries.

In total, the Mets needed 21 additional players that did not start the season on Opening Day roster.  Can you name them?  Good luck!

Trivia Friday – Mets Who Have Had Tommy John Surgery

With this Mets team once again built on pitching, the fear continues to be that one of these pitchers will suffer an injury.  An even bigger fear is that injury will require Tommy John surgery.  This usually means a pitcher is gone for over a year, and as we have seen with Jeremy Hefner and Bobby Parnell, it is not an easy road back, nor is it a guarantee the pitcher will return to form.  That is why the route Seth Maness has chosen is so important to the Mets and all of baseball.  It creates the possibility that a player can return in-season rather than missing over a year.

Can you name the Mets currently on the 40 man roster who have undergone Tommy John surgery?  Good luck!

Jacob deGrom Josh Edgin Chris Flexen Erik Goeddel Matt Harvey Marcos Molina Zack Wheeler

Trivia Friday – Members of the Mets Hall of Fame

Over the past week, I have reviewed the Hall of Fame cases for players like Edgardo Alfonzo, Al Leiter, and former manger Bobby Valentine.  If the Mets were to add these individuals into the Mets Hall of Fame, that would bring the total number of Mets Hall of Famers to 30.  Can you name the other 26?  Good luck!

Trivia Friday – First Player Called Up to the Majors

With the Mets entering the 2017 season with an infield of Lucas Duda, Neil Walker, David Wright, and Asdrubal Cabrera along with Travis d’Arnaud behind the plate, it is safe to assume the Mets are going to be one of the first teams that will need to call up a player from the minors.  Can you name the first player the Mets have called-up from the minors since the start of the 2010 season?  Good luck!

Trivia Friday – Mets Best Players in 2016

Before tying a ribbon on 2016 and look forward to what the Mets have in store in 2017, it is time to take a quick look back at who the best Mets players were during the 2016 season.  Can you name them?  Good luck!

Trivia Friday – The Santa Curse

Since 2004, different Mets players have suited up to play Santa Claus at the Mets Christmas Party, and afterwards the player has had a disastrous season.  This has led many to joke or hypothesize the Mets have a “Santa Curse.”  Can you name the players who have been played Santa Claus at the Mets Christmas Party thereby taking their career into their hands?  Good luck and Merry Christmas!

Trivia Friday – Mets in the World Baseball Classic

Countries have begun trying to assemble their rosters for the World Baseball Classic, and it should come as no surprise that many countries are interested in the Mets players.  So far, Ty Kelly (Israel), Seth Lugo (Puerto Rico), and Asdrubal Cabrera (Venezuela) are confirmed to be participating in the World Baseball Classic.  There is also a chance Jeurys Familia (Dominican Republic), Brandon Nimmo (Italy), and Michael Conforto (Italy) could be participating as well.

Whoever plays, they would join a long list of Mets who have played in the World Baseball Classic since its inception in 2006.  Can you name all the Mets players who have played in the World Baseball Classic?  Good luck!

Trivia Friday – Mets Rule 5 Draft Picks

Yesterday, the Mets dodged a bullet with neither Paul Sewald or Phillip Evans being drafted in the Rule 5 Draft.  With the Mets having a full 40 man roster, they were effectively prevented from selecting a player in the Rule 5 Draft.  However, in the past, the team was able to drafted very useful players who helped the major league team.  Can you name all of the players the Mets have selected in the Rule 5 Draft?  Good luck!

Trivia Friday – Mets on the 2017 Hall of Fame Ballot

With Mike Piazza having been elected into the Baseball Hall of Fame, it does not appear there will be another player who will be inducted into the Hall of Fame as a Met until Carlos Beltran is eligible.  Still, there are players with Mets ties on this year’s Hall of Fame ballot.  Can you name them?  Good luck!

Jeff Kent, Gary Sheffield, Billy Wagner, Mike Cameron, Melvin Mora

Trivia Friday – Mets Highest Paid Player

With this offseason, we have seen the Mets already lose Bartolo Colon to free agency, and we have seen Neil Walker return to play another season.  At this point, we still do not know who will definitively be on the 2017 Mets, nor do we know how much money the Mets have to spend this offseason.  What we do know is how much the Mets have spent in prior seasons, and who the highest paid player was.  Can you name the Mets highest paid players during the Sandy Alderson regime?  Good luck!

Johan Santana, David Wright, Yoenis Cespedes
