Mets Need Edgardo Alfonzo

Mike Puma of the New York Post reports Edgardo Alfonzo has requested to return to the New York Mets in a coaching or player development capacity. Unbelievably, the Mets don’t appear interested.

Alfonzo is the best middle infielder in team history. He was a part of the best infield in MLB history. He was one of the most clutch players to ever don a Mets uniform.

Despite his legendary status with the Mets organization, he was willing to go to the minors to work his way up. The end result was him guiding the Brooklyn Cyclones to the last ever New York-Penn League Championship.

That’s the thing with Fonzie. He knows how to win. He knows how to do it as a Met.

As fans, we really don’t know how good of a manager or coach he is. What we do know is he has something to offer the Mets organization. He understands what it takes to win here, and that’s something few can understand the way he does.

Mostly, Alfonzo is Mets royalty. There’s really not a lot of that, and there’s fewer who want to be an everyday part of the organization. In fact, he may be it.

If Fonzie wants in, get him in. There’s plenty of roles across the organization. There’s only one Alfonzo. This is where he belongs. The Mets need to make it happen.
