Trivia Friday: Pitchers With Three Cy Youngs

In 2020, Jacob deGrom sets out to become the first pitcher in Major League history to win three consecutive Cy Young Awards. If he does that, he will also become the 11th pitcher in Major League history with three plus Cy Young Awards.

Can you name the 10 who have done it? Good luck!

Roger Clemens Sandy Koufax Tom Seaver Jim Palmer Pedro Martinez Greg Maddux Max Scherzer Clayton Kershaw Randy Johnson Steve Carlton

1st in MLB history to win 3 consecutive? Except for Maddux and Johnson who both won 4 consecutive.

      Yes, four, not three

Just remembered this thread. How the hell do you win 4 in a row without winning 3 in a row?

          I didn’t say that

What does, sets out to become the 1st pitcher in MLB history to win 3 consecutive Cy Young awards mean?

It means, be the 1st to win 3 in a row. He would be the 3rd to win 3 in a row. He can’t possibly be the 1st to do something 2 other men have already accomplished.

Your question contained a goal that was not true.

          2. metsdaddy says:

There isn’t anyone who has strictly
won three in a row. If you win just three in a row, you’re listed separate and alone when they list consecutive award winners.
