Trivia Friday – 2017 Mets Best Players

Well, the 2017 Mets failed in every way possible.  Part of it was injuries.  Part of it was Terry Collins managing.  Another part, and perhaps the biggest, was how the players performed.  There were a few good performances and some middling ones.  Can you name who the Mets best players were from the past season?  Good luck!

  1. Gothamist says:

    Mets are #1 !

Of the 1,358, 62 signed their first pro contract with a major league team with the Mets — which was the most in MLB.

The second most was the 59 of the Yankees, followed by 56 by the Red Sox and 55 by the Rangers.

Between the Mets, Yankees, NL East and playoff teams

What are the rankings of most untradeable contract values?

E.G. Mets – Wright and Cespedes $104M est.

Red Sox – David Price plus
    Chicago Cubs – Heyworth ?
    Dodgers – Ethier?
    Yankees – Ellsbury
    Stros – McCann!
    D Backs –
    Cleveland –
    Nats – Zimmerman, Wieters?

    1. metsdaddy says:

Cespedes’ contract is tradeable. Wright’s isn’t, but it’s fully insured.

      1. Gothamist says:

        Cespedes, really?

A 31-32 year old, averaging 110 games who can had never hit after the 7th inning nor against better pitching?

        Completely scoutable!

Who can not protect the full strike zone (foul off better pitchers)

I will take Didi at that money, play him at third just to get out of that Cespedes contract.

Who gets $27M or more who is not a starter?

        1. metsdaddy says:

You can move that contract due to his talent. If the Mets were so inclined, it’d be a major piece of a Stanton deal.

          1. Gothamist says:

            Then you are correct.
Trade for Stanton’s deal or someone like Heyward, Pujols, Hanley Ramirez, David Price or Jacoby Ellsbury, even Alex Rodriquez.

Dave Dumbroski (Tigers Ted Sox GM) might trade for him?
His impulsiveness led to the Didi deal to the Yankees.

I think many of those bonehead deals are crucially built around three team deals….

            Trey Turner as another example.

Didi a Red signee not ready for his first shave.

I remember the newspapers saying that the D Backs were asking a ransom from the Mets for Didi one off season.
            Like Rosario and a starter….

Cashman gets him for Shaun Greene?
Was it Dumbroski who made that happen?

            Hey Dumbo, take Cespedes!
