Trivia Friday – Sandy Alderson’s First Round Draft Picks

On Monday, MLB draft will begin, and the Mets will look to add their next superstar.  The hope is the player drafted becomes the next David Wright and not another Steven Chilcott.  There’s certainly hope as with the exception of last year’s draft, every single one of Alderson’s first round draft picks have reached the majors.

Can you name Sandy Alderson’s first round draft picks with the Mets?  Good luck!

Justin Dunn Anthony Kay Michael Conforto Dominic Smith Gavin Cecchini Brandon Nimmo Desmond Lindsay Michael Cuddyer

How is Mr Dunn doing? Is he adjusting better?

    1. metsdaddy says:

He seems to have gotten himself straightened out in his brief move to the bullpen

In recent years I looked at trades made by:

    Cubs
    Sox
    Nats
    Yankees
    Rangers
    Indians
    Dodgers

My loose recollection that NUMEROUS deals for ESTABLISHED STARS were rich w PROSPECTS DRAFTED in mid rounds NON TOP INTL prospects and not usually #1 picks…

I SEE NEW ADVANCED STATS ON MLB TONIGHT OFTEN

It s ESTABLISHED that the Mets GROSSLY underspend on STATISTICAL ANALYSIS that they DO NOT HAVE a STAT GURU CLOSE BY SANDY

BILL JAMES..? Haha haha haha haha!!!!!
Nothing within a galaxy on the Mets!!!

I do not know if they pay their scouts well!!!

I EXPECT VERY LITTLE AFTER ROUND ONE…

    MID ROUND PICKS?

    Gsellman
    Lugo (13th)
    Matt Reynolds (#2)
    Tyler Pill
    Champ Stuart

    Who else?
Who else bundled on a trade for a star?
(If they could pay a star?)

Yes, the traded Fulmer a late #1….

    WHAT ELSE?

SANDY HAS TWO HANDS TIED BEHIND HIS BACK!!!!

This is a chronic Jeff Wilpon, average IQ, control freak, paralysis, cheap out or incompetence!!!

Well, I’d argue Riccardi is a stat guy. Also, it’s still too early to pass judgment on all of these drafts.

Good point, drafts and intl Free Gents from 2006-2010 of Mnaya have proven to be good years out.

DeGrom, Harvey, Flores, Familia, Duda, DANIEL MURPHY, Matz, Niese, Robles, Lagares, Dickey (FA nobody wanted) Parnell etc all would have multi year MLB careers. Except for Bobby Parnell in 2015/16 all would be good enough to contribute in the league championship series or World Series.

Since 2011 Matt Reynolds was on the World Series roster and in 2016 Lugo, Gsellman, Cecchini, Plawecki, Conforto and Nimmo were made clutch contributions in the getting to the Wild Card and by 2018, this team’s brain trust will add Dom Smith, Amed Rosario.

Gsellman, Lugo as starting pitchers and Smith and Rosario starters is simething to hang the a hat on for the scouting dept. datawise they chose trade targets well in Noah, Wheeler, Bruce via other trade aquiree Cespesdes, Walker, Reed, Clippard, Blevins, KJ, Uribe etc.

The crop of FAs during Sandy, Riccardii, Ricco and Podesta’s 7 years of operating in insolvency or near insolvency were of primarily diamonds in the rough such as Rene Rivera may have to do with scouting and data.

If they had some dollars heaven knows if they could have traded for or signed numerous contributors.

I do not see quite enough, funds for Cubans, starters to date in seven years, FAs etc but SANDY DID SAVE THE TEAM FROM AN AUCTION SALE!!!

Has it been just Rene Rivera, giving up a #1 for Cuddayer five month rental as the only FAs they could afford in seven seasons?

They did it with fumes of cash for payroll or acquiring salaried players like Walker and Cuddyer.

YOU MAY COMPEMPLATE hypothetical CASH FOR FAs, I day dream cash and PRIORITIZING AND BELIEVE AS #1 PRIOTIZE THAT SANDY / Riccardi WOULD HAVE STARTED A TOP ANALYTIC DEPT if Madoff got caught later vs sooner.

    It’s GAVIN Cecchini, not Gavic.

    1. metsdaddy says:

Why, yes it is. I fixed the typo. Thanks for pointing it out.
